A spectacular annual Medieval Fair in Provins, Unesco World Heritage Site is certainly not to be missed when visiting France. Journeying into the past might be a little complicated and even if one day this possibility occurs, it would probably create paradoxes. But time travel in our minds using our imagination can be quite fun such as creating an era of a bygone culture. One of the most impressive are the Medieval Fairs with one of the largest in Provins. It does make it more authentic especially when it is set up in the original walled city of Provins, known for its annual Champagne Fairs in the Middle Ages during the time of the Counts of Champagne, protectorate of the city. A particularity is the ambiance showing how such fair might have looked like, with authentic stalls presenting artisans passionate of the Middle Ages demonstrating the making of tools and presentation of family life during the Middle Ages. Visitors would come in their most imaginative costumes. Anyone may live their most imaginative personification of whoever they want to be, kings, queens, robin hood style, devilish creatures, knights of heavens, or whatever transpires the creative minds …

Knights in their shinning armours cannot be separated from Medieval culture. Such are those whom I met who participated in tournament special for this occasion. They would wear more than 20 kg of steel armour… And here they are two foot combatants demonstrate their abilities fighting under heavy armours within an enclosure …

  1. Your photos remind me of a visit my family paid to Carcassonne in southern France several years back. The pageantry and colorful costumes were in evidence there as well. As were the knights! We attended a joust which my son (and I too!) loved!
