The Red Lanterns of Pingyao …

The streets of Pingyao at dusk

A World Heritage Site the fourteenth century walled city of Pingyao in the Shanxi province is one of China most well preserved medieval ancient city. The red lanterns found all over the historic city were popularized by Zhang Yimou “Raise the red lantern” filmed in a magnificent courtyard style Qiao mansion just a few kilometres from the city. The city also host the annual Pingyao international photography festival.
