Astypalaia … the rocky island

Even if Greece is known to have a great number of Orthodox churches and chapels, Astypalaia this lovely island in the Dodecanese has probably more churches than people! Like its many neighboring less accessible islands, Astypalaia is definitely another good choice when island hopping around the area, especially when you want to get away from the maddening tourist crowd. What I enjoy about this place is the amazing array of white washed chapels and churches with their particular shapes. As I do have a great interest in visiting many sacred sites, I went a bit wild photographing these little beauties, so to cut short in words here are some images I took during my stay on the island.
